MARKHAM, ON / TORONTO, ON -- January 27, 2009 -- CBL Data Recovery Technologies Inc. (CBL) today announced that the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services has chosen CBL to provide Centre of Forensic Sciences staff with computer hard disk drive repair and recovery training. The data recovery company will train staff members of the Electronics Section at the Centre of Forensic Sciences facility in Toronto with the necessary knowledge and skills to recover data from altered or damaged media to assist with official investigations.
“Data recovery requires intimate knowledge of hard drive technology and the ability to analyze the physical problems that prevent access to the data contained on a hard drive’s platters,” states Tim Margeson, General Manager of CBL Data Recovery Technologies Inc. “Despite what we see on television, the platter surfaces of a hard drive cannot be scanned or read by lasers or other external means. While there is research in the academic sector, this technology is largely theoretical, and currently not used for commercial data recovery. Successful recovery of data still requires skilled staff.”
“CBL Data Recovery was selected because it was best able to design a practical, hands-on training course that best suited our needs”, says Ron Van Wieringen Assistant Section Head, Electronics Section, Centre of Forensic Sciences. “With constant changes in hard drive technology, it was important for us to choose a Canadian company that could provide the knowledge transfer necessary for us to provide scientific support for the administration of justice in the Province of Ontario.”
Under the terms of the agreement, on completion of the training, CBL will provide a data recovery support service to the Centre of Forensic Sciences staff as required.
