MARKHAM, ON – August 3, 2007 – CBL Data Recovery Technologies Inc., a leading international provider of data recovery services, is extending to businesses and individual computer users in the affected areas of Newfoundland and Labrador affected by tropical storm Chantal a 35 per cent discount off the cost of data recovery services required as a direct result of the flooding suffered earlier this week. CBL recommends that computer users with water-damaged hard drives or removable storage media do not delay in taking action and advises that they:
- Do not attempt to use or turn on the water-damaged hardware
- Do not open the water-damaged media
- Do not expose the water-damaged media to heat to dry it
- Do not place the water-logged media in a freezer
- Do not agitate the hardware in an attempt to rid it of water
If data backups are kept on CDs or DVDs offsite, the risk of data loss is dramatically reduced. However, if business and individuals discover flood-damaged PCs and servers, they should not throw in the towel. When taking assessment of their losses, computer users should know data is very resilient and recoverable.

Flood victims can send their affected digital storage media to CBL through participating The UPS Stores or Mailboxes Etc. retail locations. The 35 per cent discount is effective until August 31, 2007.
